Welcome to my blog on the business of Soccer in the USA. My goal is to make sense of the incredible growth taking place in soccer in the USA , and detail the forces, deals, personalities and sponsors shaping it. It is, however, also written with the fan in mind, because you cannot separate the Business from the Sport and on field success (or failure) often reflects decisions made in boardrooms and executive offices. If you’re looking for player profiles, tactics results, this is the wrong blog. If, however, you want to know why your team can’t (or can) afford Ronaldo or you’re a sports executive, marketing officer, team owner, sports media or involved in the business of sports in any way, then this blog should inform and hopefully entertain.

I have been fortunate to have worked in the American soccer market for over 25 years , authored the book Star-Spangled Soccer “The Selling Marketing and Management of Soccer in the USA” and have had a pretty much front row seat as the sport has grown from anonymity to a position of real prominence in the American sports landscape.

I might be right and I might be wrong but either way my opinion will come from practical experience, some academic rigor and a lifetime of following soccer.

Sure its a business book and might sound a little “dry” …but its not. Its a cross between soccer gossip, business school theory, National Enquirer and a historical novel. Plenty for fans, players and business folks alike.
